A primary service of Precision is the processing, indexing, then copying of computer reports to optical media, usually a CD-ROM. The data is stored on optical media or downloaded to your server making the reports viewable on any PC. The data is retrieved from the optical media using our Micro-CD Manager COLD software. You see the data exactly as you would have seen it on paper or microfiche. We are often able to provide COLD processing for slightly more than you are paying for microfiche. And since the data is still in a format like ASCII, it's still useable in most PC software like spreadsheets and common accounting software.

Why COLD ?

Mainframe computers that easily process large volumes of data do not allow users easy access to specific data like a customer's account information or selectively view and generate individual business forms, or accounting reports. COLD software was developed to accommodate mainframe users who want quick dynamic access to the data they use to generated reports and business forms on a Personal Computer.

COLD technology involves processing, compressing, indexing and copying data to storage media like CD-ROM's or to a network server. CD-ROM's are the preferred media because they are stable for decades and can store 350,000 or more pages of data. They are a permanent, incorruptible copy, they have common read standards, and are inexpensive. Multiple CD-ROM's can be stored in juke boxes or CD arrays giving access to very large volumes of information.

The data taken from a mainframe and stored on a CD-ROM is processed with COLD software to reproduce a user's report or business forms. The data is stored and indexed using indexes pre selected by the user. The data can be indexed on anything from a customer's name, account number, invoice date, or an invoice amount. Reports or forms can then be viewed, printed, or faxed from a Personal Computer using COLD software. Multiple users can access the data concurrently in a network environment. COLD data can also be exported to a spread sheet to be analyzed, charted, or graphed.
